Can you tell me about your program?

RTG offers support and in-class parenting education for parents while providing enriching and age-appropriate playtime for children. We provide a structured environment such as circle time and fun activities for parents to do with their children in a comfortable environment. We provide opportunities for parents to connect and build strong relationships with other parents. RTG also organizes activities outside of class time, which include evening parenting classes as well as family events such as hikes and our annual fundraising carnival.

What is a co-operative program?

It is a program that combines education and practical hands-on experience. We are a program sponsored by Lake Washington Institute of Technology (LWTech), so you the parent will be the student of Redmond Toddler Group. Our weekly classes involve a parent education class component where our teachers discuss and educate the parents on age-appropriate topics. Half of the parents will attend these sessions, while the other half watches the toddlers in specific areas of the classroom such as the sensory play area or the play kitchen. Parents gain work experience by interacting with the toddlers.

Parents work together and share rotating classroom responsibilities such as class clean-up, providing a snack, or bringing in school supplies. Our program becomes fun and loving community when parents join in and work together.

What are my responsibilities as a student of the program?

Parents have a shared responsibility of watching/playing with their toddlers during in-class parent ed classes. This teaches children to socialize and communicate with adults other than their parents.

Parents work together and share rotating classroom responsibilities such as class clean-up, providing a snack, or bringing in school supplies. Our program becomes fun and loving community when parents join in and work together.

Do I stay with my child during class?  Is this a drop off program?

Our program involves the participation of both the adult (student) and toddler during class time. This is a wonderful opportunity for parents to be able to spend time with their children in a classroom setting.

Can a caregiver (family member or nanny) attend the class with my toddler instead of me?

Yes, a caregiver such as a nanny, grandparent, aunt/uncle may attend the class with your toddler. Both the caregiver and the legal guardian are required to enroll with LWTech. Only children enrolled in Redmond Toddler Group may attend class due to insurance purposes.

What are parent education nights?

Parent education nights provide invaluable information for parents of infants/toddlers to better understand and respond to their child’s needs. Examples of these classes include lectures on nutrition, anxiety, and dental hygiene to name a few events from previous years. Education nights are child-free unless otherwise indicated. Infants in arms are welcome.

How do I apply for this program?

Please visit our registration page for more details.

Can I drop by the classroom during class time to see if the program is right for me?

No. We do not have front-end staff to help with tours or answer questions during class time. Also due to the safety of our toddlers and parents, we are unable to accommodate for drop-ins or in class visits.  Thank you for understanding.  We do offer open houses and sample classes throughout the year. Please keep a look out on our Facebook page.

When will my e-mail be answered, it’s been a couple of days?

Thank you for contacting us! RTG is comprised of three paid teachers and a parent board of directors who are parent volunteers. Each parent volunteer is responsible for different roles in our program. Our parent volunteers work hard to help run our program. Please understand that unexpected life circumstances may delay the process. Thank you for understanding.

Does RTG have financial help with tuition?

Yes! We offer financial aid and also offer support to our foster families by reducing our registration fee. Please visit our scholarships page for more details.

Is the program year round?

We follow the Lake Washington School district calendar. Classes start in September and end June. Our school calendar is available here.
